Classic 12 Inches

DJ Quik - Quik Is The Name 12"s

Here is another run of classic material. These are all the 12 inches off one of my favorite albums (Quik Is The Name) by one of my favorite producer/rappers - DJ Quik. Plus "Tonite" is in my top 5 (even though there are about 100 songs in my top 5). Compton's in the house!

Eric B & Rakim - Paid In Full LP 12"s

I'm not sure there is much that needs to be said about Eric B & Rakim. They are one of the most influential groups in Hip-Hop. Rakim is among the great (if not THE greatest) MC's of all time and he changed the way rappers rapped. They have countless hits and all of their albums are classic material. Nobody really knew what Eric B actually did other than DJ sometimes, but that doesn't matter! As Eric B & Rakim, this duo was number one competitions is none. With that said, here's all the 12 Inches from their debut album Paid In Full.

Nas - The Illmatic 12"s

Nasty Nas is the illest. For real. Illmatic is easily in my top 5 albums of all time. Every 12" off Illmatic is classic material. On top of that, even the records that weren't released as a single are classic material. These are all the 12"s ofF Illmatic, including the Japan only release of the DJ Premier produced records that came out in 2008.

Audio Two - What More Can I Say 12"s

"Top Billin'" is easily one of my favorite jams of all time (even though there are about 50 songs I say that about) and it's just one of those records that every Hip-Hop head knows word for word. The only other record I can think of that gets crowd participation like the video below is probably "La-Di-Da-Di". Who needs a hype man when you have a record like this in your catalogue? Anyways, after seeing the video it made me go back and listen to my Audio Two records which made me throw this post up - all the Audio Two 12"s from their first album What More Can I Say? (minus the "I Don't Care" 12" - if you got it please send it!).

Run DMC - Raising Hell 12"s

If you can think of a more important group to Hip-Hop culture than Run DMC then please let me know. Run DMC is THE greatest Rap group of all time and here are all the 12"s from THE greatest Hip-Hop album of all time - Raising Hell. It was this group and this album that turned me into the Hip-Hop junkie I am. Jam Master Jay R.I.P.

BONUS Run DMC:
This is a youtube favorite of the one and only airing of Graffiti Rock back in 1984. Run DMC performs "Sucker MC's" and then has a fake battle against Kool Moe Dee and Special K. This shit is so watered down for TV it's almost funny, but dope at the same time.

Public Enemy - Yo! Bum Rush The Show & It Takes A Nation Of Million To Hold Us Back 12"s

Bass! How low can you go?
Death row, What a brother knows?
Once again back is the incredible,
the rhyme animal,
the incredible D, Public Enemy Number One,
"Five-O" said, "Freeze!" and I got numb,
Can I tell 'em that I really never had a gun?
But it's the wax that the Terminator X spun,
Now they got me in a cell, 'cause my records they sell
'Cause a brother like me said, "Well..."
- Chuck D, "Bring The Noise"

Hands down my all time favorite Hip-Hop group - Public Fucking Enemy (Run DMC a close second, EPMD, Tribe and NWA round out that list if you care). Chuck D, Flavor Flav, Termanator X, Professor Griff and the S1W's. Everything about P.E. was revolutionary. I like them so much I named the site after them (kinda), so it was only right I cover both Yo! Bum Rush The Show and It Takes A Nation Of Millions To Hold Us Back on the first P.E. 12 inch drop. The revolution will not be televised.

Special Ed - Youngest In Charge & Legal 12"s

Special Ed is one of the best to ever do it in Hip-Hop and one of the youngest! Together with the super producer Howie Tee they put out some of the freshest music within two years! Youngest In Charge was Ed's debut album in 1989 back when he was only 16! Then he followed it up with Legal in 1990. Not many teenagers have been able to really do it in Hip-Hop except for maybe Lil' Wayne back in 1999. Dudes like Bow Wow, suck. Soulja Boy, meh. Even Chi Ali wasn't as dope as Special Ed on the mic (imho). And Howie's production was smmmmoooooooth. Super freshness here:

The Pharcyde - Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde 12"s

Easily one of the most influential albums of the 90's, The Pharcyde's Bizarre Ride II the Pharcyde produced a grip of classic 12"s. Not only that, the 4 MCs from South Central Los Angeles helped created a movement that was more Tribe and De La than N.W.A. and Ice-T giving the westcoast a sound that wasn't strictly gang related. The Pharcyde were my shit back in the day. In my books this is a 10 out of 10, 2 thumbs up, 5 Mic classic album. As usual, here are all the 12"'s off Bizarre Ride including the promo only "Soul Flower" 12", the UK 12" of "Passing Me By", and the "Otha Fish" 7" that has "Pharcyde Live At Dodger Stadium" on the b-side which is a dope live recording of The Pharcyde at the height of their popularity. BIGGIE SMALLS - Ready To Die 12"s

To cap off B.I.G. day it's only right to hit you with the Ready To Die 12"s. There isn't much more that can be said about Christopher Wallace that hasn't been said already. He's one of the best to ever do it and Hip-Hop hasn't been the same since March 9th, 1997. For a couple of bonus BIGGIE records that came out just before Ready To Die click HERE for "Real Niggaz Do Real Things" where B.I.G. rocks over a bunch of Dr. Dre beats, and click HERE for the classic "Dreams (Just Playin')" where B.I.G. dreams of fucking an R&B bitch.
