Large Professor

"I showed you your first tec on tour with Large Professor"

I've always wondered about that Jay-Z line in "Takeover" that calls out Nas for keeping his "tec on the dresser". To refresh your memory it goes "You scribbled in your notepad and created your life/I showed you your first tec on tour with Large Professor/(Me, that’s who!) Then I heard your album bout your tec on the dresser". Thanks to MissInfo via NBC1979 (aka Noah Callanhan-Bever aka the dude who runs Complex) the back story has been unearthed in a very dope Large Professor piece Noah did for XXL back in 2002 (okay, so it was unearthed 8 years ago but I just caught wind of it recently). The story of that Jay-Z/Nas diss is below but I also suggest you click HERE to read the whole Large Pro piece.

Excerpt:

Main Source soon set off on tour, along with the UMCs and Jaz. One particular night of that tour came up recently in the very public catfight between Jay-Z (then Jaz’s hypeman) and Nas (who rolled with Main Source). During a show in Washington D.C. the sound system cut out, forcing the artists to do the same. The angry crowd rushed the stage and chased the rappers back unto their tour bus.

“We were figuring we were gonna have to knuckle down,” explains LP of the incident, which Jay has used to attack Nas. “Jay came outta nowhere, reachin’ in his gym bag like, ‘Don’t even sweat these niggas. I got that.’ He didn’t show [Nas] the gun like, ‘I’m gonna shoot you,’ but we were all just like, ‘Whew!’”

Large Professor "Like This"

I hate using the word "real" when describing Hip-Hop music but this is some REAL Hip-Hop right here. Large Pro is that dude. DJ JS-1 on the cut (and production).

Organized Konfusion "Stress" 12"

I'm just going to start throwing 12" after 12" up. No need to comment on most of them because they are all certified classics and I have a lot of shit. Basically, it's time to digitize my record collection. A process that will probably take a good 5 years. So if you have any requests let me know, I'm not sure where to start.

I had to bring this back to the top on it's own because this track is my shit right now. It's from LP's upcoming album called Main Source and this song sounds like something off of Breaking Atoms.

Large Professor

The Extra Large Professor Paul Mitchell

Ok, so in 1991, Large Professor released the classic album BREAKING ATOMS with the two canadian DJ dudes Sir Scratch and K-Cut who were collectively known as MAIN SOURCE.

He was 19 years old.

And he put an 18 year old kid from the bridge named the rapper NAS on a song (Where's Waldo Nas in the video).

Nas is easier to spot in this video...

AND Large Professor made the beats!

Name an 18 or 19 year old hip hop artist doing anything close to this in 2008 (and don't say Soulja Boy).

You can't.
