Dr. Dre

Dr. Dre "Kush" feat. Snoop Doggy Dogg & Akon

This may or may not be from Detox, just like Detox may or may not actually be released.

All we know is that this is new Dre & Snoop featuring Akon.

So how about that... this song actually does exist. This can't be the final version, but it sounds dope. Shouts to the homie C-Styles for ridding this of the tags.

Treats #74 - KDAY Broadcasts incuding Dr. Dre Mixshows & NWA, Public Enemy, King Tee Concerts (Live in Compton)

For a rap radio junkie like myself, Los Angeles' KDAY is up there with Mr. Magic on WBLS, DJ Red Alert on KISS, Stretch & Bobbito on WKCR, and Sway & King Tech on KMEL. In fact, in my eyes it trumps them all because KDAY was the first station to adopt an all Hip-Hop format in 1983. What can you say about a station who's street team included Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Ice-T, MC Hammer, Tone Loc, Kid Frost, and Young MC to name a few. It's the station that coined the term "Traffic Jam" and was the first to play artists like NWA. Tapes of KDAY have been hard to come across, even in the age of the internet, but thanks to OldSchoolRapTapes a few have surfaced. There are a couple of Dr. Dre mixes that include one of his "Traffic Jams" (that you can listen to above), as well as concerts by NWA, Public Enemy, and King Tee in Compton that were broadcast on the station. There is also a recording of Ice-T introducing his "new" record "Colder Than Ever" that I had never heard before. These tapes are nowhere close to being CDQ so you'll have to deal with the sound quality, but 1580 KDAY was an AM station so there isn't much that could have been done about that.

Snoop Doggy Dogg "Poor Young Dave" (Circa 1992)

This track was from The Chronic sessions but obviously was left off the album. Death Row is releasing The Chronic - Re Lit today and it features a bunch of unreleased material produced by Dr. Dre that was recorded during the same era from the whole Death Row crew. This is that shit. Not good enough to make the album in 1992 Snoop > anything from a Snoop album today.

Ludacris "OG's Theme" (Dr. Dre Detox Reference Track)

I've been fast asleep for the past three days or so, but we're back with some goodness. This is another Detox reference track leak. This time it's Ludacris who blesses the good Doctor.

Treats #69 - Dr. Dre Mix Tapes (1985-1989)

Here are a bunch of Rap Treats from motherfuckin' Dr. Dre. They are the mix tapes that Dre did from 1985 to 1989 including the 5 tapes he did for the Rodium Swap Meet. We actually posted a few of these before that you can check HERE and HERE but I figured all the tapes on one post makes more sense. These tapes are dope. Every song on them is a big tune and Dre went off on the mix. It sounds like he used an 8 track because most of these, especially the Rodium tapes, are the definition of a megamix. On top of that, Dre also jumps on the mic and gets Eazy-E and Ice Cube to rock some intros. The crazy thing to me is that Dre's career was in full effect when he was making these (first with the World Class Wrecking Crew and then with N.W.A.). It's dope to me that Dre still has the itch to put out mix tapes when N.W.A. was changing the rap game and getting the feds excited. Remember, these are Mix Tapes. Which means they were recorded off cassette tapes so embrace the hiss and take them for what they are - a slice of history. For some bonus Dre, peep the video below of Dre mixing back in his World Class Wrecking Crew days. Enjoy!
