Slick Rick

Slick Rick "I Wanna Rock" freestyle

Yet another freestyle on the Snoop Dogg record, but this one is from the Grand Wizard MC Ricky D aka Slick Rick! I've seen this shit get dissed around blogland, and by no means is it the illest freestyle on this beat, but its Slick motherfuckin' Rick so anything this dude touches works for me... YOU CRUMBS!

Asher Roth feat. Slick Rick "Y.O.U."

I still don't really care about Asher Roth, but he did a song with Slick Rick which is all the reason I need to post this record. It should also be reason enough for you to go buy his album which is out today. This track is the UK bonus joint.

Hip-Hop Honors '08 - Slick Rick & De La Soul

Hip-Hop Honors is the shit. Never thought I'd see Ghostface & Biz Markie perform "La-Di-Da-Di" or Chuck D perform "Stakes Is High".

Slick Rick Tribute above, De La Soul Tribute below.

Doug E. Fresh & MC Ricky D "The Show" 12"

This is hands down my favorite 12 inch EVER, which means it is THE GREATEST 12 INCH OF ALL TIME! That is very debatable of course, but I'll debate it until the end of time. There isn't a song in Hip-Hop that I can think of that is sampled more than "La-Di-Da-Di", and "The Show" is an all time club classic. Every time I come across this record I buy it, which means I own 6 or 7 copies. It's too bad these guys never did a whole album together, but that is another reason this record is so classic. There are live recordings of them from the mid 80's, but this record is the only time they put out music together in the '80's. "6 minutes, 6 minutes, 6 minutes Doug E. Fresh you're on!"

Slick Rick is FREE

Free Slick Rick! Free Slick Rick! This is crazy to me, but in a good way. Gov. David Paterson, the man who replaced former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer (you know, the one that spent 80 000 on THIS hoe), has announced his first gubernatorial pardon and it's for Slick Rick The Ruler! There is a "Treat Em Like A Prostitute" joke in there somewhere but I'm going to leave it alone. In 1991 Slick Rick was convicted on attempted murder charges and has recently faced deportation, but now that is all behind him and his immigration issues are a thing of the past. Now we are going to have to hear people call Gov. Paterson the Hip-Hop Governor.

Gov. David Paterson's statement:

"Mr. Walters has fully served the sentence imposed upon him for his convictions, had an exemplary disciplinary record while in prison and on parole, and has been living without incident in the community for more than 10 years. In that time, he has volunteered at youth outreach programs to counsel youth against violence, and has become a symbol of rehabilitation for many young people. Given these demonstrated rehabilitative efforts, I urge federal immigration officials to once again grant Mr. Walters relief from deportation, so that he is not separated from his many family members who are United States citizens, including his two teenage children.”

Slick Ricky Walter's statement:

"My family and I are eternally thankful to Governor Paterson, my attorneys Michael Krinsky and Craig Kaplan at Rabinowitz, Boudin, Standard, Krinsky & Lieberman and to all of the people who have supported me throughout the past seventeen years. This has been a long and difficult road and I am happy for this to be settled once and for all. I look forward to enjoying this time with my family and friends and to continue leading an honest and productive life."

Treats #7 - Slick Rick (circa 1984)

Slick Rick
"Practice Over At Chill Wills Crib"

The title speaks for itself. This isn't an actual song. It's MC Ricky D practicing over at Chill Will's Crib back in 1984. He was obviously down with the Get Fresh Crew but also still "down with the crew that's called The Kangol."

Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh
"Live At The Lincoln Projects"

They had the crowd going crazy! MC Ricky D on the mic and Doug E. Fresh on the beat box also from 1984. They start with "Treat Her Like A Prostitute", end with a beatbox version of "The Show", but the highlight is "La-Di-Da-Di" and the extra verse that isn't on the studio version of the song. After the "with your wrinkled pussy, I can't be your lover" line there is a whole next verse. Rick busts a rap about Miss America who turns out to be "that hoe" Vanessa Williams and she ends up giving Rick head. He even sings again. This was recorded just before they went in the studio and made "The Show"/"La-Di-Da-Di" record - which is still my all time favorite 12inch EVER!

"La-Di-Da-Di" (Live)

This is Slick Rick & Doug E. Fresh performing live 15 years later. They still sound dope. Somebody tell them they should tour together.
